I made the honest mistake of referring to a
particular angel as a "he" in the middle of
conversation with a particular Christian. She
immediately educated me that angels were
"asexual"...as though the awry wings fixed
onto the back of a totally unaerodynamic
humanoid form wasn't ridiculous enough...
So, anyway, I informed her, in turn, that
"angels" are just one of hundreds of bizarre &
unbelievably ridiculous mythical creatures &
probably the longest surviving because they're
the least absurd and therefore fall withing the
spectrum of "acceptable bullshit":
Angel- winged Caucasian man
Pegasus- winged horse
Sphinx- winged lion with a woman's face(no
shiting)
Dragon- winged lizard with pointy tail and
breathes fire
Cerberus- This one's just a dog...with six
heads...any one of which, if cut off, grows back
Anubis- Also a dog...
-headed man
Mermaid- fish with tits...
Centaur- man with a horse's ass
Satyr- Man with goat's ass
Tawaret- An Egyptian demon with the body of
a hippo, legs of a lion & the head, back and
tail of a crocodile.
Tawaret was female...and walked on two legs.
Her job was to protect kids...(no shit)
Imagine a typical ancient Egyptian bedtime
story:
"... Sleep well, sweetheart; because a fat,
clawed, crocodile-headed she-demon/lion/
hippo is watching you"
